The Princess Bride
Monday, September 6, 2010

so I just finished reading the book and watching the movie The Princess Bride.

I bought the book back in March 2010, as the 'present' I demand from my mother for my SPM result. and she said she only sponsored me RM30. The book itself priced RM58. I don't mind, I need the book. I want to read the book. So I went to Time Square, alone, at 7.00pm just to buy the book. and it happened that I started to read the book two days ago due to my laziness and therefore, postponement occurred. lol..

and the reason why I want it so badly was because of the rating. I always, always read/ watch high rated books/ movies. And the review, this story has all. Fencing; Fighting; Torture; Poison; True love; Hate; Revenge; Giants; Hunters; Good men; bad men; Beautifulest ladies; Snakes; Spiders; Beasts of all natures and descriptions; Pain; Death; Brave men; Coward men; Strongest men; Chases; Escapes; Lies; Truths; Passion; Miracles.
wow, that's sure a lot of listing up there.

What can I say... the plot is unique. It's awesome. Marvelous. I just love the fact that the author, William Goldman, made as if it was S. Morgensterns' work and he only did the abridgment. While in fact, it was wholly William Goldman's work.

I love chapter 1. The Bride. How Buttercup keep calling Westley "farm boy" and how she eventually confessed her love. It was so funny ! Westley actually closed the door without saying a word after she confessed. hahaha. and the next thing I knew, he actually loves her too. More than I could imagine. Whoot.

and then things happens, bla bla bla happens, etc. Some parts bored me, while some parts interest me. Anyhow I cried so much during Westley's "death". lol yeah, I criedddd freakin baaaaaaaaaaadly.. haha. Thank God it's a happy ending. Or so I think.. lol

anyway in general, the story is mostly about adventure, comedy and romance. Although the adventure is not as high adventure as I want it to be, the comedy is not occured in every single page (my demand for comedy is always high), and the romance is not really romance (heck the author didn't even mentioned any kissing scene, he just gave other word for us to understand), but I enjoy reading it nonetheless.

Surely, the book is confusing sometimes. With the commentary and S. Morgensterns' original work, I kept wanting to skip those part so I read it fast.

So you see, watching the movie is simpler. It is almost the same as the book, except they skipped and cut some part (because book is 300++ pages and movie is just an hour and 39 minutes). But watching the movie made me understood the story more. And I had to say I love both the book and the movie the same.

The book is much more detailed, much more scenes and much more slower (I don't think it's slow, it's just that the movie is fast). While the movie is more comedic, and much more romantic (duhhh, how many times did they kiss?) and one more thing, the action. It's great that I can see the action, and not to picture them in my mind anymore. haha. but the one that I don't really like is the music, it's too classic and... old? well, what kind of music do you expect from 1987 movie? haha.

It would make a BIG difference if I watch the movie first, but I always thought to myself, if there are 2 or 3 options, go for the original first.

Fav quotes:
1. As you wish
2. That's all you need? Easy. I love you. Okay? Want it louder? I love you. Spell it out, should I? I ell-oh-vee-ee why-oh-you. Want it backward? You love I.
3. Inconceivable
4. "I didn't meant to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?" "Do you always begin conversations this way?" LMAO XD
5. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die !

The Princess Bride is awesome. Read it. Watch it. I'm sure you'll love it :D oh and it's a happy ending, don't worry ^^v
